I think Smart has to increase production now that they plan on selling them in China.

The best answer anybody has been able to come up with so far is "maybe". There is no doubt that Smart is thinking about it, but for now they are tickled pink to be profitable.

Word at the factory is "not much" They are producing over 600 cars a day. They have done a few things to boost production a little but they don't have any plans to significantly increase production. I would say the wait is going to get longer before it gets shorter. One of the fastest ways to increase the USA share of production would be if the US models prices were raised. US smarts sell for less than most of the world. Smart dealers in europe have lots of cars on their lots to sell (they need towers to keep them in). I'm sure if we paid more for our smarts then we would get a bigger percent of production. Just my 2 cents.

Those who pay more don't wait and smart knows that... maybe they don't want to impede on the US dealers orphan market.

If they snooze, they are going to lose!!!

With the money markets, banks and all those greedy corps. the tipping point has finally come!! The Asian car marker will seize the moment!! They build new models to compete with the Smart, and flood the market!! All those greedy dealers that upfit and overcharge for their orphans, will be looking at them in their lots. Toyota will ship their IQ in mass, and most likely build them here. Then the Smart dealers and big wigs won't look so SMART!!! They never learn, in the end they MIGHT kill their cash cow!!!

I am a widower. I need and own only one car and that, by careful selection, is a smart fortwo.
