Will a wheelchair fit?

Yesterday while fueling I got a question that I HADN'T heard before. I would guess yes, but has anyone experience with this topic? Is their a smart driver that uses a assistive device or chair?

Lesson learned the hard way - put something (towel, cardboard) between the chair or walker and the plastic door on the rear gate or it will leave some marks in the plastic. And watch the defroster grid on the glass hatch for the same reason.

Myy wife uses a 3-wheeler scooter called the Travel Pal. It's $530 on eBay and we like it enough we bought a second one to keep in the back of our Smart. The Travel Pal has NiMH batteries, external charger and is very well built. The handle bar folds down and the seat and seat post lift off. It fits very easily on the ledge of our Smart car and the light weight makes it easy to lift in and out.

When not using the Travel Pal scooter, she uses a 4-wheel walker with seat that folds up. It will also fit nicely on the Smart ledge when the scooter isn't there.

FWIW, anyone with a handicap that makes them stiff or less flexible, would LOVE the Smart car, since the doors open so widly and with the seat back, the opening is huge.

Segway Fits? Can you take a picture please?

I have a Smart on order and I'm dying to buy a Segway but I would like to see how you get the thing into the Smart and which model Segway do you have?

Thanks,

Steve

The smart is actually two segways. It notices that you sit in the front and goes forward. reverses is accomplished by shifting weights to the rear. And magic.

Yep, Segway base fits in the back with my large duffle bag on top of it, control shaft fits on the passenger floor, and still have the whole passenger seat empty or foldable for more....
