Wind noise reduction?

Having had Mr. Bean for almost 16 months and 16,000 miles, I've been extremely pleased with the smart's reliability. ...Had one lamp go out actually 2 months out of the chute, but other than that the car is 100% reliable.

One bothersome quirk is that of wind noise with the window open. I don't mind the rather treble sounds of ordinary wind noise. What I do find annoying is the very deep bass noise which sounds like a harmonic likely having something to do with the length of the window. There was a similar problem with the Acura TL with the sunroof open, but in newer models they added a very small wind deflector which solved the problem.

Is there a similar after market product out there to negate this noise??

Just thinking outside the box, but is it possible you are hearing the engine's air intake portal? It's on the driver's side, posterior and I noticed a distinct sound change when I replaced my "resonator" with a silicone tube from the air filter box; it now has a deeper growl but not bothersome to my ears.

I hear it only when my driver's side window is down.

Try opening both windows and it should help out with the buffeting noise inside the cabin.

Thanks for the replies, but unfortunately not quite what I was looking for. Regarding the noise, it is definitely a result of wind and is actually worst with both windows open. Also this starts at about 50 mph and is at a very low pitch such that a great many drivers would never hear it. Unfortunately the frequency is one which for me has not been lost yet (like others in my hearing) and seems to be the same frequency as most pounding headaches.

The main item I am seeking is a wind deflector. Any ideas??

Kind out out-there, but you could try Zig-Zag Turbulator tape. Run a line of it up your A-pillars.
TAPE & SEALS2
No need to shell out the big bucks for this though, go to the craft store and pick up a cheap pair of those scissors that cut out the zig-zag and make your own.

I have heard of others on ecomodder.com testing it to see if it does anything for gas mileage and reporting that is reducing wind noise.

There are three choices:
1. Keep the windows closed and use the AC. You'll get better mileage, but I hear that money is still free in Texas.
2. Don't drive over 50 MPH, but that may actually be illegal in Texas; certainly deadly!
3. Drive with your arm out the window.
