windshield crack

Pretty sad day today, our Smartie just got 600 miles and we heva her for 2 weeks. My wife drove today on regular Vermont rd about 40 mph and she stone hit the windshield. By the time she got home the crack grew about 15" - of course it is on the driver side and now in the driver view.
Not happy about it. Do not want some local glass shop practice the windshield replacement and the dealer is 150 miles away.
Anybody had this done? and where?
Thanks

That sucks and I don't blame you not wanting some random Joe Smoe working on your glass.

I am having my replaced on Monday.... Safelite gave me the runaround and it has taken almost a month! Eventually, they ended up giving me a big discount.

When I first called, the phone rep did not know what she were doing. I asked if it was OEM glass, and she replied, "No we manufacture our own glass". When I asked how many Smarts they have installed, and the the regional repair (Los Angeles) center has not done any! Because, I could not believe what I was hearing, I called back. The second rep quoted $300. When I explained that I have a rain sensor, he said that they could re-use it. I asked to speak with a supervisor. She apologized, orderd the glass from SmartUSA, replacing the glass and sensor and honoring the low quote.

My dealership said that the design of the car makes is acceptable to rock chips (that will more than likely become cracks). Can that be true?

Just had my windshield replaced by Safelite.... Nice guy, but this was his (the company's) first install. He broke a couple of the clips on the black vented piece below the windshield when trying to remove it.

It could have happened to anyone. They have put in a claim to replace it. All in all, it was Smart OEM glass, new rain sensor and the whole process took about an hour.

well.... I had my windshield "repaired" by JN Philips and then they replaced my rear window after someone through a rock through it...... It took them 4 days to get the rear window, which was genuine "smart" but other than that all is now well.

The most important thing to let anyone replacing your glass know is if you have a rain sensor or not.

It makes a big difference.
