Wish me luck, I'm going out!

Well, the real winter weather finally arrived here in ND. The last I checked, the wind chill was -45 F and falling.

I will give a starting/driving and heater report tomorrow.

Wish me luck, I'm going out!

Best of luck!

I'm a big chicken when it comes to snow & ice - not used to it much in Atlanta!

If we get any this year, I'll have to try to get to work, but I WON'T LIKE IT!

snow n ice here in MN

I heard the Dakotas is going to get hit pretty bad tonight. I"m sure glad I got my Blizzaks on yesterday. Driving around town today was pretty nasty. It rained early this morning and then everything turned to ice in the afternoon as weather got into single digits. The road were certainly icy. Crosswinds made things a lot worse. Thank goodness for the snow tires. Without it, I'm pretty sure I'd be in a ditch or never would have left the house.

Good luck in ND.

Woke up to 3" of snow this morning in Denver. 6 for the high and the sun was out some. Drove maybe 50 miles: to my son's house to work on a bathroom remodel and to my grandson's hockey game. Surface streets and freeways.

Heater did alright, seemed like it took a while to warm up the interior, but then kept up ok.

The stock tires performed better than I thought. I haven't driven a non 4x4 or front wheel drive vehicle in the snow in many years.

Seems the Smart wants to control the slipping and sliding. Makes it kind of hard to mess around, although I did two good 180's turning around on some side streets.

Really? How did you manage that? Must be the tires.

I tried to do such things in a frozen parking lot, but did it after I had the snows on. I'll have to try it again some year when winter catches me before the snows go on?

Bking,

Pull fuse 11 and go have some fun. Acts like a 1960s VW beetle. Donuts, Rockfords, E-braking, powerslides, etc... all do-able with a free revving powertrain. Watch out for the oversteer and remember to countersteer

Oh, and watch out as the ABS is off as well as the Traction Control. Never mind the light up dashboard either.

Remember the wind chill does not affect the smart or any other object. It is a calculated temperature based on what i feels like to exposed skin.

This is definitely your area of expertise Jeff, but I'm curious as what a high windchill actually do to a car sitting outside. I've had cars not start due to high wind chill and not just cold temperature. I've always thought, "Cars can't feel windchill because it's all steel and plastic". But sure enough, something happens. Perhaps the gas lines? Water inside the gas lines?

Hmm, well the wind may have been robbing some of the heat away from the engine, but the wind alone should have affected it. Maybe it was too cold? Not too sure.

Wind chill, is as I said earlier. It is determined by this equation:

Wind chill temperature = 35.74 + 0.6215T - 35.75V (**0.16) + 0.4275TV(**0.16)

V: wind speed
T: temp.

*Equation provided by National Weather Service.

Its only a calculation using a human face model (exposed skin)
