It's 1 degree and snowing outside. I just got back from lunch. I have to wonder how those with Smarts w/o snow tires can survive out there in this snowy/icy weather. I'm getting some spin on my Blizzaks going up hill from a deadstop. There's no way I would drive out there with stock tires.

It took a while for the heater to kick in too. But then again, I parked outside last night where it got down to 15 below.

I didn't really want heated seats -- but I wanted the rest of the comfort package. I'm glad now I ave them! Having a toasty butt on a cold morning is pretty sweet...

Yes, me too. I went out in 4 inches of fresh snow + .5 inch of hard packed snow. (The plows don't go out while its snowing in Ames) I got the smart to spin going up hills and accelerating, but had very good control. I also got it to slide (on purpose) in a parking lot. Anyway, having those conti's would be very tough right now.

Currently 17* here in Toto-land, and got our first measurable (and nimbus-driver-traffic-snarling) snowfall.

I'm not going to even try to compete with your cold-weather stories from here, although I could have held my own when we lived in AK!! ;-P

Managed to make it to and from work and errands with stock tires, and only got in trouble once when I forgot that I wasn't driving a 4WD vehicle!! Similar to driving on the highway, the car wants to GO once it gets moving -- now if I can only explain to it that we need to take it easy due to iffy weather conditions ...

When I was leaving for work, about 1/4 inch of the white stuff, I parked the Smart and took the Expedition. The wind is pretty gusty and the roads are slick, with more snow dropping and the coldtemps, I think I made the right choice. Maybe some snow tires for next year (and rims) I didn't want to fight the drive home after midnight.

All you southern folks.......

You have it nice by not having to deal with snow, but I still think you're missing out on a fun ride.

After snowblowing my driveway tonight, I went for a little spin in the Smart. There's about 4" of snow on the ground. I went to a near by parking lot and had some fun. On the way there, driving through the neighborhood with un-plowed snow, I felt like I was in a Hummer. I was going through big snow drifts with no problems. Decided to lock the brakes to see what would happen. It slid but stopped right at the stop sign. In other words, it was very controlled.

When I got to the empty parking lot, I did some tight figure 8s, did the handbrake stop to get the rears to come out, whipped some sh_tties, amongst other crazy things. It was a lot of fun. Felt like taking a 4x4 out in the fresh powder. I wish someone had a video camera to record what I did.

Enjoy your 70-80 degrees.....I actually love winters in MN.

I used to live just north of Colorado Springs... I know exactly what you're talking about. I used to find empty parking lots in my rear drive Rodeo. Part of me misses that... then I remember the $200 cost of having my driveway plowed... it was rather long and this is what they had to use.
