Has there been any other discussion on paint issues other than Snakes?

I am at 1700 mi and the car is flawless so far. No problems here.
The clear bra thing is just my theory. Fred is probably right that the issue existed before the clearbra was applied and just became obvious as time wore on. I think anbody that wanted to could assume responsibilty for about a buck seventy five. I really don't know what caused it but I have imperical evidence that it was caused

I think I may be the only paint prob... er uh.. issue

I really do think the clearbra stuff was put on wrong though. It is starting to peel up in other places now and the bubbles do not seem to be going anywhere fast.

Although we see a lot of happy posts about how much people love their car, the problem posts tend to stand out the most. I like this thread about how to enjoy your car.
My comments are NOT directed to anyone in particular. Broken Kid nicely makes a very illustrative point that hit a chord with me within the context of this post.

While it may be anyone's *right* to spout, conjecture, exaggerate, or regurgitate (ad nauseum) any real or perceived problems, I would hope that people would feel *responsible* for how any post or comment might affect a prospective buyer. There are those who are happily awaiting their new cars, just to have someone piss on their joy with a callous conjecture. Many people are not regulars on this or other sites, and don't have time to 'drill down' to sort out real vs. perceived issues. The often-speculative defamatory characterizations of the smart could easily alarm someone who might have been 'on the fence' or sincerely curious about the car. These forums call for a higher order of responsibility for how we speak, and an awareness of how our speaking can and DOES affect others. As Broken Kid pointed out, he (and others) gravitate to balanced, mature, non-complaint types of posts. The car/company/process brings out good and bad, excitement and frustration, upset, anger, etc... Just please consider for a nano-second how any venting or out-of-context comments could affect others. 'Rights' should never overshadow 'responsibilities.' No offense meant to anyone.

was it worth it? g*ddamn right it was worth it. I got an orphan, and I feel the stars were aligned for that miracle purchase. I went to the dealer expecting to get on the waiting list and order one. as fate would have it, there was a great smartie there to be adopted. drove home with it that night.

awesome car. fun to drive and great on gas. the fit and finish is tops (previous cars were '96 GTI VR6, Audi S4, Saturn Vue V6 (and presently the wife's car '06 Subaru Outback)), and this is only topped by the Audi in fit & finish. the premium audio is sweet, again, only topped by the Audi.

the smartie is a purpose-driven purchase. a commuter car, a car for the single, a car for couples, etc. buy it if it suits your purpose. no car (or anything for that matter) is perfect.

what you will find in life though, are people who like to whine and complain. these are the same people that complain about the table given at a restaurant, or the waitress, or the service. glass-half-empty types. Forums like these give them a sense of relevance they lack in the real world.

Am I going to listen to some tool-shed that does not even own the car yet? That question, my friends, does not even need an answer.

if you got one, enjoy it! if you're waiting, godspeed to your ownership. it is indeed a great car!

Look at it this way... You can order, and wait, if you change your mind you can still get your $99 back even on the delivery date. (this is what I was told by SmartUSA.) So it is a Win - Win situation. I personally would order and go for it. Worst case, you get your $99 back and someone gets a nice orphan... Still win-win....

stevenvillatoro...I believe that was Fredvon4's original intent. We all understand there are isolated issues with this car and as has been posted before this is the exception, not the rule. I hope foolofsand got the information they needed to make an educated decision about buying a smart.
