Wrench and -1 on panel after starting!

Completely out of the blue, I've got the little-wrench-icon and a -1 showing up where the odometer is for about 10 seconds after I start the car.
This is the wrench without the line-through-it.
Nothing seems to be wrong. It's shifting o.k.
Hooked up a handheld OBD diagnostic tool and its not showing anything abnormal.
Anybody else experiencing this?

Does your car have 10K miles on it or is it a year old? Sounds like you're due for the first service.

3550 on the odometer and it's just over a year but I've already changed the oil and filter at 1000 to get rid of any initial filings.
So you think its a maintenance milestone at only 3500 miles??
If it is, how come I can't reset it??

The car doesn't know you changed the oil and filter; you can (as in it's possible) reset the indicator. Instructions are in several threads here but don't seem to work for everyone.

I tried the reset-procedure in the owners manual but it didn't seem to respond.
You say there's another procedure posted, but I haven't been able to locate the thread.
Any help would be appreciated.

The link is there now. The procedure "will" work but it seems to be as much in how you grit your teeth or hold your mouth as in following all the steps. Keep trying and let us know if you get it cleared.

I think you all are confusing the wrench with the wrench-with-the-line-through-it.
The line-through-it means maintenance.
This is the one without the line-through-it.

ALSO don't forget there's a -1 that also shows up in the odometer display.
This doesn't seem to track with any other posts.

All? Only two of us responded so far. Yes, I probably did confuse the two - go to your smart center ASAP before it catches fire.

From Page 139 in the manual:

Quote:
Selecting maintenance service interval
display: Press left button 1 ( page 138)
repeatedly until the maintenance service
interval display appears in the status
indicator.
Depending on the type of maintenance
service that is due, symbol¬ or} is dis
played.
> Clearing maintenance service interval
display: Press the left button on the
instrument cluster ( page 138).
The maintenance service interval display is
cleared.
> Activating maintenance service interval
display: Press the left button on the instru
ment cluster ( page 138) twice in quick
succession.
There are two maintenance symbols: a single wench and a double wrench (which may look like a wrench with a line through it.) Each refers to a different service interval.
