Hi folks,

Ryan here. Great to see all of you as into the smart cars as I am! Also great to see that you enjoyed the Christmas card (my apologies to those of you that did not receive one...all of those that I had addresses for got one sent out.)

To answer your question on the doc. fees, Bergstrom has a standard doc. fee for all of its stores, which is $125.

If you - or anyone else out there (even from the other states) - has any questions on how things are progressing and what happens next, please don't hesitate to send an email to rlenfestey@bergstromauto.com.

I can't believe how many of you are on smartcarsofamerica.com! This is really exciting!

California limits the doc fees to $55. Some southern states like Florida have no regulation and can charge up to $900 in some cases and call them "doc fees."

None of which goes to the government. It falls to the dealers bottom line.

I'm confused... what's a "doc fee?" I don't recall seeing this when I've purchased other cars over the years...

BTW, good to have you here, Ryan. I'm glad to see dealers and sales people posting directly.

Doc fees are what they dealer charges to file and process paperwork. Its a fee that runs usually from $75 to $175 in Wisconsin. Bergstrom is about in the middle as an example Russ Darrow Group which is where I worked until a few weeks ago charges $150. I suspect its a way of recooping cost/making profit. Keep in mind the average dealership will lose money on selling a new car but will make that up in fees, accesories, service.....

Another Wisconsinite reporting in. I'm in Madison and my number is 1180. Even with that low of a number, the dealer cannot tell me when my car is coming in other than to predict it will be sometime in the first quarter. They received their first shipment of cars yesterday; more to arrive in the next 30 days but my name is not on that list.

One more Wisconsinite checking in! Res. #1174 and while I missed out on the first shipment, my fingers are crossed for a delivery in the next couple of weeks. I can't wait!!
