Change "Midwest" title

I don't know about everyone else, but I HATE the negative and ignorant connotation that the title "Midwest" brings to peoples lips and minds.

We don't all have mullets, drive pick-ups, and are uneducated.

I would much prefer to be labeled as the "Great Lakes Region," a more distinctive and better descriptive title.

Comments???

Been brought up before; I'm for it also.

I haven't selected the "midwest" region for that very reason.

SMART (admin) will pick up on this; whether it gets changed depends on how many members agree.

Please other members let us know if you want to change the name here. It looks like we've currently got the most threads out of all the regions so far.

I think those in Kansas, Kentucky, Ohio, Oklahoma, and the Dakotas would object to being called "Great Lakes."

I for one think that calling us in California "The West" is demeaning to those of us who aren't movie stars, cowboys, drive flashy cars and go to Stanford.

I think you should call us "Somewhat Near the Pacific Ocean." However those in Arizona would probably object to that as well.

Ohio is totally on a Great Lake......Erie!!!! And I hear it's not on fire anymore....hee hee! (quote from friends who live in Cleveland)

Arizona has their own region already.

As far as the other states you list....haven't seen any representatives from them. Are they around?

Kentucky....Isn't that south of the Mason Dixon line?
(not trying to offend anyone)

Kansas and Oklahoma are pretty hot and south, close to Missouri.

The Dakotas may not be ON great lakes, but they HAVE great lakes!

Unfortunately your references link goes off to an area that only paying members can see.

The Census Bureau defines a four region breakdown like this:
