Detroit grand opening Thursday 01/17/08

I thought by now there would be some kind of news about how the first Smart delivered in Michigan went. I know MISMART was going to be there and I know he was expecting to get his car today. We may never see him again....

Did anybody else attend, or does anybody know of an online write up having been done?

I even thought it might be on the Bloomfield website but it wasn't the last time I looked.

Maybe tomorrow morning's papers?

Sorry for the delay in posting folks. It's been a wild day.

I did take delivery of my smart fortwo today during the smart center Bloomfields' Grand Opening. Signed papers and had the keys by about 1:15 pm and the official presentation took place at 2:00.

This is Dave Schembri (addressing the media), myself, and Joe Ziniti, GM of smart center Bloomfiled.


The media interest was amazing. There must have been 25 - 30 outlets there, both print and TV. I spent several hours doing interviews, and was drained but happy when I finally got the new smart home. I've got tons of other photos during the interviews if anyone's interested.

On the humorous side, I asked if I could put in a $99 rezo for the mild hybrid that Dave and Dr. Z showed at the Detroit auto show earlier this week.

I only drove the car about 20 miles this evening, but I was very impressed. As posted before - the car is much improved over the early European cars most of us drove during the Road Tour. I adapted to the trans quickly and love the paddle shifters.

I plan a road trip this weekend and will be back with hopefully more insiteful impressions soon.

WOO HOO, FABULOUS NEW, CONGRATULATIONS, and thank you for getting this show on the road. I'm going to wait two weeks for head in for test drive to get pwyched up for delivery. Looking so forward to the reviews.

What was the reply on the mild hybrid, I did put $99 down for the possibility all ready.

Now the question becomes, how many more cars did you see there ready for delivery? I'm half hoping that they have more cars ready to be delivered but they wanted to hang onto them so they wouldn't have only the demo units when the press was there. Heck, I've even zoomed in on the satellite and tried to figure out how many cars in their lot look like 'smarts' and how many look like larger cars.

I'm sure you are exhausted, and probably everybody there is drained from being on their toes and trying to project their best most of the day.

Your car looks just like mine from a distance. It looks BEAUTIFUL!!!!

I'm more fired up now, than ever. Come on phone...RING!!!
