Rocks on Windshield??

Anyone having window problems? I'm just sick about the two rock dings in my window. One is moving across the window. I'm having it checked out tomorrow. I'm just wondering if the straighter windshield and closer to the front makes it more susceptible to rocks. Or do I just have rotten luck?

There is a thread in the forums that someone had brought up already about replacing windsheilds. They have replaced 3 already. Myself, only finishing up week 2 and I try and stay away from those rock trucks.

I have been on both sides of this luck thing. Had a BMW that seemed to be unlucky. Virtually every hit became a problem. The smart has taken at least three shots already that had me immediately thinking the worst and came through just fine. That said, the smart seems to be all window up front. Seems like on a percentage basis it would be more likely to get dinged than other cars.

New cars are stone magnets.... I've had a few big hits and feared the worst, but nothing happened. Then, out of the blue... I get hit with a small little ping from oncoming traffic and watch my windshield crack right across. My stealership wants $700 to replace it. I'm going to have to live with this for awhile as I don't have glass coverage.

Check out Safelite, if you don't have the rain sensor its $370.95, with sensor $545.95. It's one of the reasons I didn't want the comfort package Anyhow, I'm pretty sure they're nation-wide. Good luck

Hi Kawgirl -

Yep - it happened to me - first I had 3 chips repaired and less than a week later a crack appeared!

Windshield crack

I think the smart's windshield is a pretty big target!

I lucked out with the repair. They were able to repair the little bullet hole looking ding as well as the tiny ding that spread out 5 inches from the edge. I'm just keeping my fingers crossed they hold and that I don't get any more. It's really cold here in Michigan, and that doesn't help.

And frankly I wouldn't give up my comfort package. Never had heated seats before, and probably won't go back!

I think it's more that the rest of the car is such a small target.

I also am on my third windshield, being the auto body buisness for over 30 years I would say it's because the Smart sits low and the windshield is right out front.

A regular chip magnet.
