congestion pricing to be changed in London!

Hey Ny/NJ smart drivers who drive into or through Manhattan. The anticipated "congestion pricing plan" that is being proposed for NYC is broadly based on a similar plan that has been in place for several years now in London, England. I just read in several British news websites that Ken livingston, the controversial London mayor has proposed that the "congestion plan" be scrapped in favor of a co2 emissions plan that would exempt low-carbon vehicles emitting less than 120 grams of CO2, which includes the smart (I think).

If NYC follows London's lead, this will increase the inherent value of our new cars due to its "green-ness" by saving a mint on charges for driving in NYC.

If I correctly recall what I have read a good bit ago, the low-CO2 plan in London amounts to an exemption to the existing regimen now in effect. I believe that smart makes a UK 61 PS (60 HP) 451 specifically to make the exemption.

'Gas guzzlers' C-charge up to £25


The majority of cars are unlikely to be affected by the price increase.

The highest polluting vehicles will pay a daily charge of £25 to enter the congestion charge zone, London Mayor Ken Livingstone has announced.

He also revealed that cars with the lowest carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions will get a 100% discount on the charge.

Most drivers will still pay the £8 road toll for entering the zone which covers parts of central and west London.

The new charges come into force on 27 October. The mayor said: "There will be losers but overall we will all gain."
