Saw Pennsylvania-based Smart Car - How?

Hi Everyone,

I'm new to the forums, and registered for a car on January 1st. While I'm not too happy about having to wait a year plus to get one for my wife, it's nice to see that initial U.S. demand will hopefully ensure Smart's existence for many future model generations to come.

I saw a Yellow Pennsylvania-based Smart about a month ago near Princeton (vanity plate IMSMART) at a shopping center, and was wondering how the girl (in her 20's) aquired her vehicle so early. Was this an employee demo/roadshow/dealer car?

selling 450 conversions. The car had to have had triple tail lights and vertical door handles, not mention some other 450 indentifying traits. They paid a pretty penny for that car most likely....low to mid 20's I'd guess.

In Western PA you may see ...

smart's with Canadian plates (close to Erie on the interstate). I counted 6 smart cars, all with Ontario plates while traveling through on I-90 just outside of Erie this past summer --- seeing a converted one in the U.S. is fairly rare (I've only seen 2 in the 'burbs of Chicago in the last year) but as jonnysan says, these would all be 450's --- I look for the MB 'peanut' style headlights myself, another distinct trait of the earlier series ...
