Bobs Big Boy
4211 W Riverside Drive
Burbank , CA 91505
(818) 843-9334 Who should come
Any smart enthusiast. Why
Because we're going to WOW those car buffs at Bobs. Details
I've heard what an attention getter one smart was to the crowd of car lovers at Bobs on their weekly car night, how about several?
Lets gather and share our love of the Smarts. If you don't have one yet, you are more than welcome to come and hang out with ours! Show them your love!
I know 5 is an early time for a Friday (thats when it starts), you don't have to make it there on time, though the earlier you arrive the better chance at a spot, I'm sure you can squeeze in any time though
I have been to this night before but never participated, so anyone who has feel free to throw out any tips in the comment section.

I'm going to go out on a limb here, and suggest that we think carefully about this Big Boy meet BEFORE we do a full-scale invasion.
I was the owner who was there last week, and it was kind of a happenstance thing. I live here in Burbank, and although I've known about the drive-in for years, I've never gotten around to checking it out for one reason or another. This past Friday, I was on my way home from a visit to the guys at Universal when I saw it and thought, hey... I don't have any obligations for the next hour or so might as well stop. I should also point out that I come from a LONG line of muscle-car people; my dad made his living as a mechanic, and my brother and I built our own first cars - both souped-up 60s Chevys.
Anyhow... the reason I'm urging some restraint is that this is overwhelmingly a big-four hot-rod meet. Most of these folks have hundreds or thousands of hours' work invested in their cars, and being on a waiting list - even for a year or longer - doesn't even come close to that kind of commitment. This past week I parked on the end of a row with the intention of gawking at other people's rides. I wasn't really prepared for the attention mine received, and I was quick to relinquish the space when I saw that a GORGEOUS purple Merc was looking for a spot. I'm afraid that if we show up there with an army of microcars and take up parking spots that people who drove in from all over greater LA were hoping to use (remember the smart wingspan problem, and also that operating THEIR cars comes with much a heftier price tag), we might end up creating a bunch of ill will, when (I think) we'd rather come as happy missionaries.
So... on to my suggestion: If we still think this is a good idea (and since I looooove car shows, I'd sure like to make it work), could I recommend that we consider initially meeting someplace nearby, and then driving over to Bob's and parking, as a group, someplace OUTSIDE the main parking lot? One thing that could be über cool would be to line 'em up along Riverside drive - maybe on the Bob's side, but perhaps even across the street. Station a couple of us at our own cars to answer questions and hand out fliers, and then the rest of us could wander the drive in and drink milkshakes. I see it as a win-win situation; we're there, but we're not thumbing our noses at the people who worked so hard on their own "babies."
Thanks Leanne for your input! I picked this out on a few others suggestions but certainly take your thoughts into consideration. Do you have any other suggestions on a meeting place for this?
I've always remembered the street parking to be a bit lacking.
I think any car should be welcome at the show, its a car show, not really a muscle car show but I can totally see where you're coming from. I've been there before and yes there are usually older cars there, and not usually a club.
PS: My car has some muscles.. they're just in disguise

It's not that I think this is an exclusive club, really, so much as I'd rather tread as lightly as possible until we get a better handle on who the regulars are. And it's clear that there ARE regulars... like the Beverly Hillbillies guy, as well as many others. There seemed to be a conspicuous absence of the little Japanese racers, which could tell us something about the folks in attendance.
How about this... I'm close, so I'll try to get over there in the next day or so and scope it out for parking. As far as a meeting spot**the Tally Rand (on Olive, just a few miles away) comes immediately to mind, but there might be someplace better, or it might make more sense for a couple of us to get to Riverside Dr. early and stake out some room. Am I right that we're looking at a headcount of about 8-10? How many cars?
I think I may be the only soul in the Long Beach area, but i'll post to this thread and offer up the fact that the Long Beach Belmont Shore crowd is NOT your typical american-bread muscle-car owner (and i can say that coming from a Ford family having owned 2 'stangs myself). Any place i've driven I've nearly been mobbed with enviro conscious/green/europeans that love the car and can't get enough of it.
At any rate, the 2nd Street Strip in Belmont Shore is loaded with cafes, restaurants, and shops...and I am overwhelmed with attention when i park my smart there. I'd love to see everyone drive to Belmont Shore (yes, thats easy for me and hard for you), but street parking would be in abundance if we met at 9 (or even maybe as late as 10) am on the weekend. Just a suggestion...
It'd be cool to see the smarties lined up in parallel parking spots while we all shared coffee.

Yes I'd say 8-10 is a good estimate. Tally Rand, whats that? If it has a lot where we can all gather to start out, sounds good. I was also thinking a local park?
