I don't think he kept up with the WRX. He kept up with whatever the slowest car at the front was doing. All sorts of accordion effect going on there. The smart was also way over centerline much more than the cars ahead.

<-- WRX driver

The car in front of the WRX, seemed very slow. IF THE smart could keep up, why didn't it pass the WRX, and the slower car in front. Whats with the video game thing at the right corner

I don't get the point of the exercise. Looks impossible to pass the car in front. Actually the smart was taking the turns correctly, sticking to the insides of the curves, leaving room to slide over and take the shortest line on the next one. The other cars were clueless. I don't think anyone was concerned about the centerline, it was a 1-lane course. How did they guarantee no one would be coming down while they were going up, or did that road dead-end at the top?

OP is correct if you do not have a clue how to drive or know what an apex is it is very easy for a lesser car to keep up with a faster car in the twisty bits.

i am a WRX driver also boss, i've been driving this road for over 7 years. this was a uphill and if i had the power to pass i would have.

If i had power and more grip i could have single laned and passed them. but being underpowered and undergripped I used the full road to my advantage sir

if it was downhill i would have passed, but it was UP i didn't exactly have the advantage. and did all i could with my level of experience and road knowledge

this was an example of a driver beating driver, the person with more skill and knowledge can out do modifications and horsepower.

and people were waiting at the top and didn't let people go down the hill until all of us came back up. the norm is to cruise down and race up.

anymore questions?

no passing is required with initial d uphill rules. front car either leaves you in the dust to win or following car tailgates you to finish or passes to win.
