Beach Invasion! - April 18; Portland >>Cannon

Who's up for a no-nonsense, totally unplanned, one day road trip to the coast?

I'll be at the Fred Meyer Parking lot on Cornelius Pass just south of Highway 26 (Hillsboro) at 9:45 AM, leaving at 10:00.

Nice long drive to Cannon Beach for lunch and a stroll on the beach.

My inclination after soaking in Canon Beach would be to drive the coast down to Tillamook and pick up some "squeaky cheese" for the return trip.

I'm probably in.

Former Oregonian

This is off the subject but someone may know. I'm Wilson High '61 and I remember coming down Sunset Blvd., where we lived, crossed Terwilliger ? and straight into Wilson. I seem to recall I could turn left, before crossing over into WHS, and follow a winding road down into Portland. On that road was a cool restaurant that overlooked the city. Anyone remember the name? I'm sure there must be bunches of them now but I thought I'd take a shot at this.

By cool do you mean very expensive and very good food? The Charthouse has an amazing view off a winding road.

Consider lunch at Camp 18. It's a restaurant/logging museum in a huge log building on Hwy 26, 18 miles before you hit the coast. Good food and a very interesting place.

Cheers, Dan

The restaurant was upscale. It could be the Charthouse 'tho it may have had a different name years ago.
Back to subject - Cannon Beach - been there mucho times. As far as mountain driving I'll have to stick to the BRP (Blue ridge pkwy)

My wife says that she thinks it was known as The Hill Villa back in the old days.
