What is this MPG Challenge?
The MPG Challenge is a Road Rally with an emphasis on getting the best possible fuel mileage possible. To further break it down:
A road rally is a competition where you are given specific directions to follow and try to complete them as close to the target time as possible. They are completely legal as the target time will never require you to exceed the speed limit or drive in any sort of illegal way. Unless you screw up… but we don't need to know about that…Google 'road rally' if you'd like, but don't get intimidated, this rally will be simplified for the sake of everyone having a great time.
Fuel mileage is the gimmick factor here. We're interested in how economical you can drive your car in a mix of urban, suburban, freeway and two-lane highway driving. Your mileage over the mixed EPA rating will be weighted more heavily than your time.
There will be a bonus puzzle to keep drivers thinking and navigators entertained. Oh yeah, complete it and you'll get bonus points to make up for lead-footing it down that on-ramp. It happens.
We'll break things down by class so Hybrid owners, Scions, gas guzzlers and everything in-between can battle it out amongst themselves for the title of Mr. or Mrs. Miser Foot and win some prizes!
Just to sweeten the deal,
we'll feed you lunch no matter how poorly you rank.
And because not all good things can last forever (or 1000 miles depending on how you look at it) the rally will be about
125 miles long.
