Clearing the walkway!

So...... all of this winter weather got me to thinking, especially after just viewing the YouTube video on the forum here about someone beating a smartcar to clear off the ice. Once....in southern Alabama, my wife (born & raised in Illinois) was working at a local Bar-B-Que joint, and we'd gotten a RARE winter storm. When she got to work, the sidewalks were solid ice. So.....she took some hot water and poured on the walkway, and then got a bag of rock salt, and salted the walkway to KEEP it clear of ice. Well, the owner of the restaurant, seeing how quickly the hot water cleared off the walkway, and not having a window scraper on hand, decided that would be a really quick way to de-ice his windshield! :>) Took care of the ICE, alright! He had a completely CLEAR VIEW from the driver's seat!! :>)

Pouring very hot water on a cold frozen wind shield can sometimes crack the glass! Why didn't he just use the defroster, and a credit card?

When the windshield glass breaks and you kick it out, there is nothing in the way of a clear view.

If there was that much ice on the ground, and they are not used to driving, maybe they should stay home and keep the sidewalks clear for the people walking.

It DID crack the glass!! Well, actually the glass just 'kinda disintegrated, thus the reason he had such a "clear view" afterwards! :>( Oh......and he didn't use the defroster & a credit card because he was STUPID!!! Dohh! :>)
