Whatever you think of Steven Colbert, this is a great way to support our troops and their kids. Every little bit helps.
I was going to take my Dad, a WWII Navy Veteran, out to dinner tonight, but he said, "let's see what the kids need instead." He did, though, ask me to iron the freshly washed Flag before he climbed the ladder to place it in its bracket on the front of the house just after sun-up. Making its way overhead, bright orange against the morning Spring sky, the whopwhopwhop of the Coast Guard chopper making its rounds up the lake silenced the birds busily nesting among the new leaves of the old cherry trees. He looked up and nodded. And, backing down the ladder, he stepped back, snapped to attention, and saluted.
