108 in Brookings! It sounds more like Redding! What is the temperature usually? More like high 70's? low 80's?

We've had a few hot days up here in the Great White North!

Brookings is in the banana belt, I'm nearer the Arctic Circle!! Constant winds for the past three days 20-30MPH gusting to 40! Can't even play golf!

Just a few more sleeps until we venture south. It has been really hot weather up here for the last week, although not 108! It was 31 or 90ish, which is really boiling! I haven't looked at the temperatures for Washington, Oregon and Northern California yet. We should be in Santa Cruz on the 18th.

Where are the Smarts

I am just north of San Francisco and haven't seen one Smart. A gas station attendant at Canyonville assures me that there is one nearby who is a resident and that he has seen 2 being towed. Nothing on the road for me. I keep looking

In 10 days I'll be flying to LA to pick up my smart passion coupe, then drive it home by way of Fresno, up I-5 to Weed (where I expect it will be cool relief from the heat of the valley), then catch Hwy 97 through central OR and home to central WA. I'm looking forward to the trip and trying to think of useful things to have on hand like tire pressure gage, sunglasses and camera!

The car has only 190mi on it now, so this 1100-mile run will be a good break-in. I'm thinking the varying speeds and engine loads will be good for the new car, but not necessarily result in the best fuel mileage... If you see a blue w/black coupe streaking north at the end of July, wave!

Hi,

The mountain passes were a breeze in boiling temperatures. The car performed amazingly. Now we are in Florence for a few days. Maybe I will encounter Dunerunner or another smart. I have only seen one Smart on the trip to Santa Cruz from Vancouver and then to Oregon. I thought I would see more.

Back home in BC from Florence. On a 10 day trip, only saw 2 other Smarts--one in Santa Cruz and a red and silver one parked in Florence (at a car dealership I think). The car performed amazingly and was lots of fun on the winding secondary highways.

Good to hear the trip went well, mimota, and the smart gave you a good time. Did you record fuel mileage?

I didn't calculate the mileage, but I went from Bellingham (near Bellis Fair--exit 256) to just south of Roseburg, Oregon on 7.1 gallons of gas. Roseburg to Eureka, CA on 5.5 gallons. I was happy. 10.1 gallons coming from Florence to Bellingham.
