Yesterday afternoon, right about 5pm. My wife and I are heading east on SE Hawthorne Blvd. in Portland, turning left onto 39th Avenue, and a blue and silver pulls into the westbound lanes of Hawthorne a half block ahead of us. I get honked at because I don't jump off the gun as the light turns (hey, I'm watching smart cars!) but make the turn, figuring that's all we're going to see. A few blocks later, as we're waiting for a clear spot to make a left from 39th, the blue and silver honks as it blasts past in the right lane, on its way up into Laurelhurst.
Oh, man, is it just me posting sightings in Portland now?
OK, about 1:30pm this afternoon, driving past Nick's Coney Island on SE Hawthorne Blvd, there's a bumblebee parked out front (again). I've got to check over there for lunch more regularly and surprise someone. Then just a couple of minutes later, as I'm heading north on SE 39th, another bumblebee is heading south from the light at SE Belmont. I wave, and I think they spotted me.
The double-sighting is a first for me, although you folks headed to the Lombard crawl will certainly have me beat in spades.
It was a double black passion turning east onto Glisan at about 53rd. I was going west - I honked and waved, but it took quite a bit of horn action to get him to see me. Finally a wave and a smile just as he was pulling into the last smart-sized parking spot on the block.
Wu-hu! I'm up early and packing lil monster for the Road Trip to SF. Meeting Mikie, John_H and of course Susie for breakfast in Salem and then nothing but rubber and pavement the rest of the day. (hope they got those I-5 fires under control!)
Sunday - Saw well over a hundred of them all trying to get down Lombard Street at the same time. LOL!
Wednesday - Saw the Blue/Black that lives close to me. Said a quick 'hi' to the owner.
Thursday - Beautiful Yellow/Silver (I'm starting to love that combo) on highway 26 westbound. They were waving and when the traffic came to a near-stop, the passenger rolled down the window and said "Nice car!" I replied "Beautiful!".
My friends and family are reporting almost daily that they've seen one here or there. I guess it's not a big enough deal to even post much any more.
I will post if I see somebody that I recognize, though! And if you see me (note the stripe) Let me know!
Today, about 4:15PM; we were on our way to Cool Coastal Nights Hotrod car show in Winchester Bay and passed opposite direction on the Siuslaw Bridge, a yellow/silver. Driver nearly hanging out the window waving and smiling, we were into the windshield waving and smiling. This is the second time we have seen this car so they must be nearby!!
Picked up my wife at Pioneer Courthouse Square yesterday afternoon just before 5 and a blue and silver headed past us going south on SW Broadway. We went a couple blocks past our turn to try to catch the attention of the kind of walrus-looking older gents before they turned off toward the Sunset onramp, waving like fools, but they must not have seen us (or they were pretending not to have spotted us). We were on the other side of a four-lane street.
