Very sad to report that my Smartie got bruised on its bum a few weeks ago. Good news is, it took the bump like a champ.
I went to Smart Center Seattle to get an estimate, but because the tow hook screw is bent and the alignment is off, they recommend that I take it to a body shop.
Has anyone taken their little one into a shop in Seattle yet? I'd like to take it to someone that has dealt with Smarts before.
We got t-boned at low speed in a parking lot (senior snoozer backing up) and took it to a local body shop in Wenatchee where the tridion was repaired and the back 1/4 panel replaced and it's back to good as new. Only difference commented on was the tridion, being powder-coated, was tough to roughen up for a new coat of paint.
Might as well give a plug, since they did a good job: Leonard Evans cars body shop.
When I went to pick it up the manager said "Good to see it go, now we can get some work done around here!"
Here's an update on where I am with repairs for my Smart.
It's been around 3 months since the accident and I've checked with a few body shops and no one wants to deal with the Smart. That led me back to SmartCenterSeattle. BJ in service took care of me. He had me bring the car in so he could look at it. He said that they could fix the car (and has cars in far worse shape that he's working on) and apologized profusely for the bad information I got back in September when I first brought the car to them.
There you have it. Unless your Fortwo is in really bad shape, take it to the dealer - which made the most sense to me in the first place.
Most repairs can be done right at the dealership. Here at smart center Portland, we are fixing a yellow smartie that was the "meat" portion of a "Tri-met Bus Sandwich". The car held up amazingly well and all the repairs were done here on site. No injuries either!
I would recommend taking your car to the dealership to assess for all needed body repairs. Sorry you got bad info in the first place, but SCP is the place to go for all you PDX smarties!
