Selling your smart private party

Have you guys had any luck selling your smarts lately? I just put my smart up for sale on AutoTrader but would like to hear how others have sold theirs.

Ryan,

You know you can't just say you're selling your smart and not give any other details!

So...

Ours has been on AutoTrader for almost two months now; one phone call - that's it. Sign in the rear window, etc. but zero interest. Market appears to be saturated.

Usually, when something doesn't sell it's because the asking price is too high.

I sold an orphan October 2008 and had to take much less than my original asking price. I set my original asking price slightly lower than others I saw on Craig's list. I got no serious inquires from either Craig's list or AutoTrader at that price. Surprisingly, I was able to sell the car at a car dealer's auction for about $600 less than my out the door price. The market has softened a whole lot since then.

A couple weeks ago I took delivery of the car I reserved. Having the orphan for a couple months really clarified how I wanted to configure the smart. I feel it was worth $600 to find this out.

I'm simply prepping myself for the next one. Originally I wanted to get a Brabus but now I'm thinking it's best to sit tight and to wait for more info on the electric smart. Other than that I inherited another vehicle from my family so I'm stacking too many vehicles at this point for just myself and my girlfriend.

There are two here in this area sitting on dealers lots priced at 18k and change and gathering dust. With new orphans sitting in showrooms why give up a day of the warranty.

I got cold feet when my 2009 configured Smart arrived a few weeks ago and so I gave it up, and I decided to keep my orphan. I figured I was going to get hammered on the selling price of the orphan based on what I was sensing on the threads, and so I decided maybe a 2010 model would make more sense. So back in line for another one with my fingers crossed that the economy will be better then.
