If it moved to an earlier date great, if it is later in the year (like almmost a year later) bum! I take it is earlier and therefore, GREAT!!!! Who are you working with at scP.

Picked it up from smart center Portland 4/4/08.

Am I supposed to be working with someone? Everytime I call there, they don't have any information on it. I got the DDE from the Smart USA site. Yes, it is Oct - Dec 08.

Dune......I may be the 1218 you have quoted above.

After a flurry of emails from Massimo at Smart PDX at the beginning of May including one dated 5th May saying "Your Smart should be here very soon ", things have gone quiet. No Vin # or shipping info etc.

My DDE is at "5/3/2008 to 8/1/2008" so if there is any truth to the idea that the first DDE date is manuf. date and then delivery is "normally" 30 days after, we could be getting the call soonish....but who knows

With $4.13 now routinely appearing at local gas stations, our decision a year ago to pay the Smart deposit etc seems incredibly percipient and I can't wait to partially mothball my Explorer.

darrelplant - What was your Reservation # and I'll add you to the delivery list!! Nice red Cabrio!!!

dichrodave - I worked with Massimo in sales. He is great but like most dealers, smart center Seattle excluded; they haven't given any Vin.# or shipping info to any buyer that I know of. Talk with Massimo or call Trang, the GM and ask her what the status of your car is.

martyparty56 - You are the 1218 on the list!! Massimo may or may not have the information you want. Like I told dichrodave in this post smart center Portland doesn't give buyers shipping info. I've tried to convince them this is in their best interest but for some reason no-one at the dealership sees any value in it (Like good customer relations). Good Luck and hang in there!!

Agreed Dune.
The news of the week 4 me (with apologies to Barack Obama) is that Massimo at SCPDX called me on Monday to say my Smart should be arriving this Friday 6th June and we have tentatively agreed a pick up next Monday.


No Vin # for me or anything like that so I can arrange insurance. Oh well.

BTW I am a NE portland dweller and already have a Blue/black Smart living around the corner from me. I think that arrived in April. As sugggested in another thread, I am wondering if "introducing" my new Smart to the one around the corner will result in another Smart in 9 months.

I am imagining there will be a whole delivery of new Smarts along with mine, so a "lot" of NW people are going to be getting onto the road in the coming days.

Another PNW Smart on the road !!

We picked up our Smart from SC Portland Or last Friday evening 6th June 08.
Metallic Silver/black with heated seats ($220), electric Power steering ($450) and alarm ($160). Alarm activation beep is an annoyingly high pitched "chirrup".

We were a May 07 reservation holder #1218 and December 07 configuration. Until it changed after delivery our DDE was 05/03/08 until August 08.
We also bought K & N Filter ($69) and carpet floor mats ($65) and had to pay some $243 in license,Title fee,Electronic filing fee and Processing fee. And I had forgotten about the $645 destination charge

The genial Massimo took us through the paperwork and hand-over without much drama. The only point of contention was the 'discussion" about why both my wifes and my SSN 's were needed when we were paying cash via a personal check. Massimo said taking a personal check required a credit check. I know this "requirement" has been the subject of other threads so won't rehearse it again but when we complained Massimo was pretty relaxed about us giving him the minimum of un-needed info.

There were about 20 news Smarts on the SC PDX forecourt and looking up side down at Massimo's paperwork it seemed our deal was #369. That might have been the number of Smarts sold thus far or the total amount of cars sold at the SC PDX because they also have a forecourt full of trade-ins etc.

I had taken a previous test drive so knew what to expect when driving. I thought I was going to be using the paddles but found it difficult at first to change at the right time and i did notice it was difficult to use the paddle to change down going around a corner because the paddle was wizzing around as the steering wheel turned. So i am now trying to get onboard with the "D" automatic trans and the "lurching".

Have already had to hand out 2 of the "cheat sheets" to people asking questions. Almost universally, onlookers think it's an electric car. My teenage son was very pleased when some of his female school colleagues started taking mobile phone pics of him driving.

And I didn't have to get in my Explorer once this w/e !!
