Soon to be an owner!

Some time this coming week, I'll be taking delivery of a new, leftover 2015 Smart Electric Drive. I'll get the benefit of the federal tax credit as well as the state exemption on paying sales tax, and since I got it for 50% of MSRP, the Smart will pay for itself within a couple of years.

Is there any activity among the local owners? I went to the electric car show one of these past weekends at the Triple X, but not one Smart car was there. I'd love to meet some other owners and talk about experiences and see what modifications or additions can be made.

Thanks.

Definitely was worth the wait. After hearing of Steven's deal, it was going to be hard to have been satisfied with anything that was significantly above that. In the end, we paid about $1k more than I was originally offering, and that was well within my comfort range. That and combined with the fact that this is the lowest mileage new Smart in the color we wanted out of the seven or eight that seem to be remaining and we just felt like we had to jump at the chance.

But it's kind of sad that there isn't a lot of local activity, despite that there is a large population of electric cars. It'd be fun to get together with other owners and share information and stories.

Start something yourself, maybe on MeetUp?

I guess I'll need to find the lay of the land with Smart car owners in this area. I have a feeling that if they're not on an enthusiast forum like this, that the likelihood they'd be on something like MeetUp AND be enthused about meeting other Smart car owners is going to be slim. Undoubtedly there's at least one owner out there who realizes that rear wheels are great replacement for front wheels and are regularly perusing resources looking for parts. Just a matter of finding out where else they hang out.

I've been looking around a bit here:

Seattle Electric Vehicle Assocation (SEVA) ? Promoting, Educating, & Proliferating Electric Cars Since 1980

It'll be an interesting adventure.

It looks like the Seattle group is very active and welcomes all EV's and enthusiasts. Sounds like a good place to get your feet wet in the EV car hobby.

I'm generally the type of personality that tends to want to learn everything I can about a new technology that I get exposed to. That this is seems like a pretty fun vehicle to drive is a bonus. It really came along at the perfect time in our lives and is now the perfect fit, whereas a couple of years ago we wouldn't have even given it a passing thought. I'll probably go attend a couple of their meetings and see what the political and cultural leanings of the group are. I think it's more along those lines than being an enthusiast organization, though it also tries to function as that to serve the main purpose.
