dealer followup

I'm just curious as a new smart car owner ,if the dealer has followed up on you enjoy your car after buying it,a little disappointed here ,not an e-mail,phone call from the staff at the dealership where I purchased ,its the first time in over 22+ of buying new cars that at least someone hase called asking how the car is ,nothing from the salesman ,sales manager ,or the general manager ,I know the car sells itself, I'm still old fashioned I beleive in a little follow up helps the car and the dealership get repeat business

I did get a follow-up call from Loeber Motors and also another call from my salesperson, Billy Cooper to get my plates. I think follow-up has been good. Also, the service department manager for Smart was great in following up with my questions.

I received a form letter on Flagship Motorcars letterhead, in which "Herb Chambers (by means of a rubber stamped signature) thanked me personally for purchasing a Smart car, indicating that they appreciate me for having purchased it from their dealership, knowing that I could have purchased the car at many other dealerships". In this letter I was invited to send my comments to their General Manager. I did. The GM called me within 5 minutes of me having sent the email to him and apologized profusely about this form letter. Other than that, I have not heard from anybody and I find this very disappointing, indeed. On the other hand, who are we talking about? Car dealers. Most of them still live and work in the dark age (see Orlando). Once they sell a car to anyone of us, they will not see us again. Probably for several years to come. So why bother. In the case of our Smarts, they did not even have to sell us anything.

Bremer,
I am getting my car from the Lynnfield MA dealer and my car arrived at the Baltimore port on Feb 17th and called them to see if they had an idea of when it would arrive and they had no clue that the ship arrived. I had to explain how to track the cars on the Wallenius website... I am a little disapointed myself - by ready what you typed about the follow up, I am not surprised at how they are now. I guess I am not expecting a whole lot to start with...

If my situation is any guideline, it may take about 2-3 weeks before your car will be delivered to the dealership after it arrives in Baltimore. I find that semi reasonable, consideirng that they very likely check out every siongle car to make sure there is nothing wrong with it. The problem is, you know it is there and you are aching to put your hands on it. Strange thing about the tracking. I did actually explain this to Lynnfield as well and even dropped off a printed copy of how and where to track cars.....

Haha... I called today to see if I could add some extras on the car blah blah and I got Ann-marie a little miffed at me because she said that the tracking system is not correct : " I don't know where you get this from, but I am in constant talk with Smart and they said that the cars are not here yet. " Then I asked her how can a vessel filled with 169 cars couldnt be here when the website says it did? I didn't type a fictious VIN# you know... Oh well. I suggested to her that it might be beneficial for them to come and visit this website on their " extra time " while at work lol.

That's a stitch!! I'm seeing a prevalent attitude (with a few fantastic exceptions) of "consumer ignorance / dealer omniscience."

Them thar internets - they's powerful helpful when you'z car shoppin'!

*sigh*

My dealer's service department went all out as they wanted me to bring the car to the dealership for an unscheduled service so they can check everything and read the computer to make sure that it's not throwing a fault code I am not aware of. The car passed their service inspection with flying colors. The process took about 40 minutes that gave me a chance to chit chat with the sales people there.

Just like the last 2 times I bought a car, in 1999 and in 2003, I will be knowing more about the car than the salespeople, thanks to teh internets and my madd research skillz.

When I was visiting the Annapolis dealership on Feb 9th, the salesman told me that he had never seen the red interior)... I had to tell him about it.
