I spoke with the head of tourism for Monroe County to let them know about our smart trip and as a side note I mentioned that I was interested in visiting Flamingo, Florida. This old-school Florida town (I am talking 1800s old) was all but wiped out during the 2005 hurricane and has been neglected so much that the head of tourism had to look up the town because she hadn't heard of it! Anyways, they used to have a nice lodge there but it still hasn't been rebuilt. The recreation facilities there are only currently open during the winter months and I was thinking that it would be a great idea to plan a camping trip to Flamingo to help the tiny town get back on its feet. They are only open from December-April until the town returns to its full glory. To add to the coolness of this town, and to relate it to the smart, the plan is to turn all the destroyed buildings into 'green buildings' just like the smart is a 'green' car. Would anyone here be interested in going on a camping trip to Flamingo during those months? I think we need at LEAST 5 smarts to make it a successful trip.
