This morning at 7:25, a Red/Silver traveling south on Business Hwy 98, crossed the intersection of 3rd Street in Springfield, as I was approaching from the East to take a right turn to the north.
I was running late and my attention was mainly on traffic at the intersection, but couldn't miss the smart and I vaguely caught a look of recognition (of a fellow smartie) on the other driver's face.
EDIT: Added on 9/1/2009 ... saw the same Red/Silver, a few blocks earlier on his route (further North on Business 98). Just as in the first sighting on 8/21/2009, I was running a few minutes late.
EDIT: Added on 9/2/2009 ... saw the Red/Silver again. Looks like I've got a new smart in the neighborhood.
I live in Miami and Smart sitings are extremely rare here(they don't seem to sell well in this area I think) but I finally saw one parked in the Dadeland mall parking lot, it was a black and white Cabriolet.
I know its a very sad event ... the passing of Edward Kennedy. I was watching a news story ... I live in the Orlando FL Area, the story was shot in DC, in the background a Black Smart breezed by. Maybe on its way to pay respects.

We bought our Yellow/Silver Passion coupe last Feb,,,and are in Brooksville, FL.
first I saw a blue one, with really unfriendly elderly couple (evidently just a car to them)
but now I've seen another Yellow, this with black tridion, on Powell Road, I've seen it three times so must live in our area.
Also SMART Interiors has a SMART parked out front in Spring Hill. Guess the owner has a good sense of humor...

more sightings: Dade City
as you might know, Dade City is a small rural town, very nice and quaint. We went there today to walk around and get the oil changed at the Mobil 1 oil change shop.
including ours FOUR Smarts parked in downtown! one other yellow w/black.(could be the one I've seen around our place), one grey/sliver coupe and one black/silver cabrio.
guess Dade city needs Smart parking slots now

I'd heard from several folks at work that the local Nissan-Mazda dealer had a fortwo on display, prominently in the front corner of the lot. So, I drove by just to take a look. Sure enough, a Black/Black Passion. I didn't stop, and couldn't tell if it was a Cabrio or not. I might drop by and check it out further ... like, how much are they asking for it. So, that one wasn't 'in the wild', but it is the first one I've seen for sale here.
Then, not a quarter mile from the car dealer, headed the opposite direction from me, a Red/Black! Wow, I couldn't believe it. My roof was open at the time, I blew my air horn and waved through the roof. As far as I could tell, they didn't make much of a response ... possibly they didn't see me?
Wild smarts are still unusual sightings here. Although acquaintances keep telling me they see them 'all the time' ... somehow I don't. I guess they get around more than I do.
Our area must be unusual...Lake County...central FL...We have quite a few of them around here...I see a couple a day. One of our local realtors has hers wrapped in her company's advertising.
Or maybe visiting ... back in August (post #61) I saw the same car four consecutive days and haven't seen it since.
Yesterday and today I spotted the same Blue/Silver coupe. Yesterday, I'm fairly sure he didn't see me. Today, it would've been hard to not see me. I was out of my car, taking pictures beside the road (and my car) when he drove by, with no wave, honk or anything. Probably a visitor from somewhere like Freeport, Florida ... where smarts are common.
