smart fortwo in "Orlando Style" magazine

We just bound out the February issue of Orlando Style magazine. There's a two page spread on the smart, under the category TOYS. It's an upscale magazine, aimed at people with a heck of a lot more money than I have. I don't have a scanner hooked up right now, sorry.

It features a full page photo of two smarts (red/silver cabrio and blue/silver Passion) nose to nose in front of a large city fountain. On the opposing page, a synopsis of the car. Nice to see the recognition. Though they give the price of the cabrio at almost $2K less than what mine cost, I guess $16.950 is the base cabrio price.

A few typos appear regarding the car's horsepower, which is oddly stated in three locations on the second of the two pages. Twice it is given as 70 HP, and the third time as 7 (seven) HP.

Nice one, NCC. Do they have an online version or will you be working out that scanner connection soon?

I'm starting to get really irritated at people referring to my car as a toy. Anybody else?

Maybe I'll get the scanner out this weekend. I'm starting a two week vacation. At home, with lots of work to do.

They do have an online edition. But, February isn't online yet. And, only previous issues are free to view. Current issues are $1.99, online.

Suze,
A dictionary definition of Toy goes both ways. It can mean a "small" example of a known object which likely fits the smart but it can also mean something not taken seriously which most of us would be offended by. It can be something playful and fun which again likely fits.

I think it's simply a matter of personal opinion.

I have a wind-up key on my smart and call the car my wind-up toy. Obviously others may not buy into either the key or the name but to each his own.

I can assure you that if I referred to someone's smart as a toy it would not be with the intent to offend, it would be like refferring to a wealthy persons private airplane as one of their toys!

Remember the saying: He who has the most toys wins! Often a reference to cars, motorcycles, boats, ATV's etc.

Toy is OK with me but I understand why others may not like the reference.

Have a great day!

I think toy here is the same as a jaguar or lotus or ferrarri not tonka or playschool .

And the old saw still applies...

"The only difference between men and boys is the price of their toys."

My job as a computer geek lets me play with all the cool computer toys.

My bike weighs less than one of my cats. The bike is made out of carbon fiber and costs more than my first Volkswagen. It's got more miles on it than my car, but it's still a toy.

If someone makes a crack about my cabrio being a toy, I just smile and agree. It's a hoot to drive and I compared it to a go kart while talking with the office manager at a business I visited today.

Life is too short not to enjoy life and play with our toys...no matter how expensive they are.

Last weekend I brought out of town guests to the Museum of Natural History and they have a new exhibition called CLIMATE CHANGE and low and behold right in the the center of the collage was a picture of a 450, not a prius but a SMART!!!!!!! The discussion of course was about OUR part in controling global warming. Than why is it we cannot get the status for a clean energy pass?
