Yes, I believe so. I had asked the people at Smart about it and they said Arizona law says they can charge anything within reason so there was no set fee. I guess it just depends on what the dealership want to charge.. I've been told in most cases you can refuse to pay this and they will wave the fee but in the case of the Smart Car being a hot selling item they don't have to wave the fee and they know they can get it period. So it's just a matter of how bad you want it.. pay it and shut up... that what I end up doing..lol I'm a person that keep my vehicles for about 10 years so I get my money back out of it just driving it to death..lol

If they are charging the $400 instead of the $695 that everyone is paying then I would stay in AZ, I guess we need a few more AZ buyers to share their out-the-door numbers here.

Thank you! Very helpful Phxbird57. Especially since I chose the same options as you. I've been saving for my Smart since I confirmed in November. Now I'll tweak that amount so by the time I get mine**I should be able to pay $$$.

the destination charge is not a scam. everybody pays it on every car in America. it's non-negotiable. but if you paid any type of "delivery package", that's a huge scam.
