Drove by Smart Chandler - are they orphans?

On the way back from Tucson I swung by the Chandler Smart. They were closed but I notice there were about 8 or 9 Smarts parked out front. Are these orphans? How many tester cars do they have? Certainly, I hope a few of these cars are waiting for owners to pick them up. I got the call 2 weeks ago that my car would be in in 60-90 days. From those of you that already have your Smarts... when do they give you a VIN number? Or am I making a mistake by assuming they will let me know?

BTW on our way to Tucson we were passed by a Black Smart with silver.

In my case, when I went to pick up my car, they had about 15 parked outside in plain view but they all had a "sold" sign in the front window. They might all be sold as well at your dealer. I got my vin a week or so before the car made its way to the port to be loaded on the ship.

When I was last at Chandler there were name tags on the dash of most of the cars parked outside, They had about nine then as well.

Hey Arizona Smarty:

Was thrilled to see your post pop up today. I called about the white orphan but turned it down because it has black cloth interior, and I want leather. It also has velour (sp) floor mats, lojack, and black shell. Too bad, it didn't have leather interior or I would have shot down there. Thanks for sharing the info though.

The Blue one is gone. I bought it today (3-22-08). I called Tracy on Thursday and she put me on the "list'. Rumur called on Friday and I called her back today. They had 3 convertibles available. Now they only have 2. There were 22 cars setting around. All were sold but the ones inside and the 3 that they told me about.

Was at the dealership this AM. They just received a whole slew of new Smarts. Some of you should be getting calls soon. Good luck!

As of Wednesday, March 26, at 630 pm, the lady that rode with me for a test drive said they had just sold their 80th car in Arizona. She also told me that the only way to get an orphan is to be an Arizona resident, have already registered for a car, and have name on the orphan list. She did say they would sell and orpahn to a walk-in, but only if they met the above requirements. So they won't just give orphans away to anyone off the street.

Just thought you all might like to know.

I didn't think to ask her how many cars had been reserved in Arizona. Maybe someone hear knows.
