I just purchased an extended warranted from Warranty Direct. I had the extended plan details from smart so we compared the plans with the prices and determined that their bumper to bumper warranty was a much better deal.
They have plans that go up to 7 years/100,000 miles. If you're interested, call Kelly at 800-632-4222 ext 1445. Please let her know that you heard about it from Nancy in AZ!
I am looking at the website and these look like good plans. I too am a Prius/Smart owner. Our Prius just turned 5 and the extended warranty is over. Thus far all is well short if needing new tires and maybe replacing a headlight.
I am presently shopping for the Smart's extended warranty. I learned from the Prius that dealership warranties are almost always over priced. I think they were pretty disappointed I didn't get one. Oh well... I'm doing the shopping now before I forget.
I was curious if you went with the SecureCare+ or MajorCare. SecureCare is more expensive, but if you look at the (Learn More) section it really seems to cover the same items as Major Care. At least MajorCare has 25 items that are NOT covered... SecureCare+ has 24 items that are NOT covered.
I just don't follow why one is better then the other. They just put the word "Bumper to Bumper" in the description and charge more, but I don't see in righting what is better.
The problem with the Smart Car is that it's a tricky car to fix. Much like the Prius, the parts are not expensive, but it's not a car designed to be fixed, at least not by the owner. Dropping the engine to fix various problems is rather annoying. (The problem with the Prius is that you have to dismantle all of the plastic parts to get to the problem.) So Labor is your number one issue that you want covered, and covered for a long time.
You must work for a dealership. The Smart Extended warranty is overpriced, and designed to be confusing. Plus, it's not an option for me because the dealerships are too far away.
Turbo42,... give us the Skinny on extended Warranties... We know the most important Flaky part is the Clutch, and no extended warranties cover that...<:-((
Right now I am leaning towards no Extended Warranty. If the car has a major issue it's likely to be under $1500-$2000. And from what I have been reading it's going to be something not covered by any of the extended warranty.
Hopefully I can sell the SmartCar in a couple years and get an EV.
Here is how it works...if extended warranty (from whomever) covered all of your breakdowns company would not be in business. They have to take in more $ in, than they put out. The way it is usually done through a loopholes. For example, if you see "will cover Mechanical components which are not part of normal wear-and-tear." Then lets say your fuel pump went out and you got coverage denied due to your fuel pump having electrical current to it and therefore is not a mechanical component. I think I would rather take your $2000 and put it away and earn a little % on it while it sits there...when you need the repair take it and pay cash, no network to go to, no forms to fill out, no deductable, and the most importantly(my favorite)...hours saved on phone conversations with reps that just give you a run around with hopes that you will quit.

Your profile says you live in Seattle.... In the same city as your dealer???
