Austin's smart Car2Go program

I just heard about this program, the first in the U.S. and the second one in existance (Ulm Germany was the 1st). I got these pictures while at RRsmart today. Sounds like a pretty cool program.

According to earth2tech.com

Daimler will have car-sharing program in Austin, Texas. Daimler will roll out its “mobility concept,” car2go, in Austin this fall following the expansion of a pilot program in Ulm Germany.

Austin will have 200 Smart Fortwo cars with micro-hybrid drive in the city. Once registered, you can pre-book the cars online or via mobile phone, or check out an available vehicle in person. When you’re done, you can return the car to any unoccupied parking space within a set operation area. Charges will apply but it's calculated by hour and min.

I asked Marty that question and I'm unsure of his answer. I think it's a yes but I'm not sure. It's a different kind of engine, it's a hybred, so they all must come into this country with a specific destination, Austin.

Yeah, I just read about this program, I can't wait until it starts, perhaps it will alliviate some major traffic and parking problems in Austin. How have you been Rmichael? Anything with CenTex going on or has the club fizzled out?

Hi,
yea, the club has kinda fizzled out and it may be my fault. I haven't had the energy to plan events and no one has stepped up. Well, I take that back a couple of people have tried but in Austin were there are literally a million and one things to do every day it's hard to get people out for a car event. Any ideas?

Well, I tried to get it working myself, but been busy trying to get my new business going, and getting my house done to put on the market.

I do say a Meet and Greet Barbeque might be a good idea one of these weekends coming up. Maybe have ppl RSVP and donate say $5 a car. Then what is leftover from buying hot dogs, buns, and soda could say go as donation from the club to say school for the blind or something.
