First thing out of their mouths...."Boy! I wouldn't want to be in that little thing in an accident." They immediately form a mental model of small equals disaster in an accident. That's because all small cars built in the US (Fiesta rings a bell as well as Vega) in the past, and other countries as well but used in the US (like the Yugo, for example) have been S***boxes....that's why most people react that way.
I plan to brainstorm, as we all should do once we have our cars, on
changing that mental model in ways other than illustrating crash tests. I am going to make up a really nice *hard copy* picture of the tridion safety cell and carry it with me in the car. That way, when ever that stupid, idiotic assertion comes up, I can counter it with facts and illustrations to reinforce what I'm explaining to them.
I won't tell them about the nitrous kit or the paint ball mini-gun mounted on the inside of the tailgate!!!!!!
