Hi Texas,

I was was down close to Houston (San Antonio - sort of close) last month and wonder how you (all) cope with the freeway drivers I saw. They seemed to relish going 15 over the limit no more than 5 feet off of the bumper ahead of them. We were surprised at the driving around San Antonio as we had just driven from Fort Worth to Abilene and back and the traffic was always just a mile or 2 over the limit and seemed very tame and orderly compared.

I personally just try to stay off the freeways!

Houston used to be a friendly place up until about 1980 when all the influx of, forgive me, YANKEES started. I say this because all the license plates were reading Michigan, Ohio, and the like. Eventually all these folks got Texas tags, but the driving style here was forever changed.

Back in the 70's when I learned to drive, you yielded the right-of-way to exiting traffic, left at least a car length to allow someone to enter the freeway or change lanes, stuff like that. Now, god forbid that anyone allows you to enter or change lanes!!! Thing is, that if they were courteous and "zippered" in, the traffic would flow much more smoothly than it does when you are DAMNED and determined to keep the car from getting in front of YOU! GOD forbid that you fall one car length further back in line!!

So, I just keep off the freeways, and let the idiots fight amongst one another.

I'm one of those Yankees and I most certainly don't drive or act like that...my drivers license is too important to me and I'm one of those who pretty much follows the letter of the law...I too am amazed at the lack of courtesy out on our roads and I am also amazed at how many single finger salutes I receive because heaven forbid that I follow the speed limits...which of course isn't fast enough for a number of people. I also am amazed at how people will cross 2, 3, 4 lanes because they can't drive down the road making proper lane changes...no, they would rather inconvenience others because they are more important than everyone else on the road. It boils down to people not thinking of others and only about themselves. I won't change my behavior and can only hope and pray that someone doesn't cause me to have an accident thanks to their selfish behavior.

Nice to know that the stereotype is wrong! Sounds like you drive more like I do!!

And I can't STAND those drivers who have the attitude that they were on the freeway first, and they'll be damned if they are going to let YOU (me, us, anyone) on!!!
