Cakemeister, I was told today that Sugarland is the only Smartcenter for a while since the one up North would be ready to open for a few more months. Sugarland will have all the area south of I-10 all the way South to Corpus Christi. Sugarland's official opening date in 1/15/07. They don't have any car yet until this Friday that the displays/demos should be in. They don't have the list yet because the center is not ready. Ralph and Brian are the guys who runs the center and they are nice guys. Ralph asked for my contact info so he can call me when this list is in. They have broshure there same as the one you can download from their web site. I'll put up the info as soon as I get it.

Thanks for the info on the 1960 & 45 location.

I don't think I'm getting a car any time soon so I'll stop by Sugar Land when I'm over in that part of town in early February, just to take a look.

Mr. Driscoll may not be thrilled about selling a cabriolet for $18k when he can sell the big benz for $60k. The profit margin per smart sold probably is not great.

My reservation number is 1325 so I may or may not get a car this year, depending on cancellations and production.

I wonder if the market for smarts is large enough to support two Houston dealerships.

The other dealership is the MB dealership on North freeway. They called me today and said mine would be here shortly my number is 1137

"There is another option if you still want a 2008. There will be people that have reservations and for whatever reason cancel their order (orphans)."

That's what happened when I had the Turbo Beetle on order. I was #7 for Houston, IIRC. First delivery was only 4 or 5 cars. A month later the next small group arrived, but not a black one, the color I'd ordered .

Some guy had ordered both an Audi TT and a Turbo Beetle. When the Audi TT showed up first, his VW became available, so I just snagged a silver one out of that second group.

By then, (18 months since I'd put down my deposit) I was so anxious to take delivery I jumped at the chance to take the silver one.

Sorry that I did not get back to you earlier. I did go to Sugarland dealer that Monday and talk with the guy there. No cars were in yet but he took the time to talk to us anyway. Like we were talking about, I was able to get on the "Back-Up" list. I got the impression from him that there were under 10 people on the "Back-Up" list. So we had hopes of being able to snag an unwanted ride. That was until today. They called. Informed us that they have since decided that they need a 500 dollar deposit from everyone to be on the "Back-Up" list!
Needless to say, this pisses me off as there was no deposit needed when I was put on the list. Looks like I will be waiting for ours....... unless I decide to buy something else first!
