What's the weather like?

How are your smarts handling the 100 degree heat in Houston? I'm considering taking the smart for a visit later this week but have to admit I'm concerned about the A/C keeping up. Thanks!

Been to Houston twice in my smart. No issues with the A/C. Actually cools down better than my GMC P/U. Temps here in San Antonio are between 93-98 daily. I park mine outside with the windows cracked 1/2 inch. Go for it.

As to the Smart in Houston heat...Spent all day Friday in 90+ degree heat on a cement parking lot setting up an autocross course for a local charity car show. Drove the Smart around it at speed for maybe 30 laps. Lots of fun and a very popular ride for Ferrari owners that day. AC worked like a champ!

Anyone had the inside of the roof tinted in Houston? Might have to get that done while I'm there.

My smart has been parked outside at work and it's been in the mid-90s and muggy in Dallas. The smart does take a long time to cool off after parking in direct sunlight for the entire day. I finally bought a sun shade for the windshield and that helps out alot. As for using the ac, I have it at full blast for about 10 minutes and gradually work its way down to the lowest settings. The only thing I notice is a 2-3 mpg drop.

It is 100 degrees in the Baltimore/Washington area TOO!!

I use a windshield shade (has red/orange FLAMES on it! perfect match lol!)
and keep the roof shade closed while at work. Luckily I have a garage at home.

Yes, it gets very warm in the car, but NOTHING like my former black car with black leather interior. Now THAT was an oven!

PS- The weather was like this all weekend too ** no prob w/ the A/C!

The A/C should be fine as long as you don't set the temp to the max cold setting for prolonged periods. One person on the trip to the recent SCOA meeting in Houston had his A/C freeze up but it recovered OK after backing off on the temp setting.

I was cool enough setting the temp at 68F but tinting the side windows would help! I kept the shade closed on the roof.

Thanks for all the replies. I should be in Houston this weekend through the middle of next week if anyone's interested in a mini-gathering some evening.
