Just got this in to try out some in-car video:

More info at Solid State Digital Video Recording Systems and Cameras | ChaseCam; for smaller cameras only and less than $50 shipped.

I found the section for the suction mounts. Here is the site for the base and for the extension.

I have a small Protax digital camcorder that it would be neat to use with it (do a video of me driving my little car or a video of my point of view while driving my little car ).

Mine is in black but looks the above.

I must be missing something. Why would I want to take photos or Video while driving? Sounds like distracted driving to me.

Enlighten me!

One could take the video while the car is not moving; therefore, it would not be a distraction? If one has a passenger control the camera while the car is moving, would it be a distraction for the driver? Perhaps one could use the camera while at a safari type park where one drives and the animals are free to roam? One could set it up so one could take a picture of the sunset while one is at the beach and the vehicle facing the setting sun? These are just some ideas.

At some point I'll stick this to the passenger window and run the car through the gears in "D" at various throttle settings, just to have a record of how the "auto" trans shifts. May try it out on this weekend's Iowa Tour with 15 smarts rolling through the cornfields.

A lot of people use them to record their autocross runs or track day events. My co-driver won a $500 gift certificate from chasecam at the Toledo ProSolo this summer, he gave it to me but I still didn't use it.

I'd use it, aimed at the 11 o'clock position to record the slackjawed "WTF" reaction I get from people that turn left in front of me while I'm at a light. This is classic YouTube material, guys.

Here is a single suction cup version.

This one looks closer to the one originally shown.

It would be cheaper to get this one for $40 than the two parts for $25 each with a total of $50.

One could use the Smart Fortwo as a 'tripod' and the Fortwo as a 'photo booth'?
