Been there on the motorcycle side. Was always glad to see motorcycle spaces designated, but often saw cars impinging on them. This didn't look like a case where any motorcycles could share with the Smart which makes it undesireable (and would probably get your cited). Either the Smart gets blocked in by bikes or the bikes are blocked in by the Smart (if they were there first).
In the office parking garage, I try for the end spaces that are open on one side. That would be a perfect compromise. . .put a Smart in normally but out close to the lane and put a bike or two perpendicular between the Smart and the wall. Better yet, if you can do it, put all of them perpendicular facing the open side. I'll have to see if I can stage that and get a photo.
Saves the anger of the driver who thinks s/he just found a space and then sees the motorcycle. Saves the less attentive driver actually hitting the bike. Saves one or two spaces and takes two or three vehicles out of the line of fire. Now I just have to track down the motorcyclists in the building and suggest we form an alliance. Or get the other Smart owner to join me in perpendicular parking on an end space. (Could we convince the garage management to charge us half price?)
