I showed those photos of the Focus and the Fortwo to my cousin Garrett.. who is a former Focus owner who HATES the Smart Fortwo. I just wanted to share with you his response, and I do apoligize in advance for his language:
"Are you a dumb ****? The focus collided head on? the smart just got swiped... it's really unsafe that in a side wipe accident the smart's suspension got mangled. This is what the smart would look like in the focus' position.
I realize it, but he doesn't. Here's what I responded to him:
"According to the forums on smartcarofamerica.com, the Fortwo got T-boned by the Focus. I think the Smart Fortwo can be repaired if the tridion safety cell is still in good shape, all they pretty much have to do I think is repair the axle, replace a rim, the turn signal light and a few body panels. The Focus on the other hand, is pretty much totaled."
I think he's just trying to argue because he loves finding reasons why the Smart car is anything but smart. He's driven the Fortwo once in the past, and it was a complete joke to him.
I know it is. I can't stand the Focus. He doesn't have it anymore, as our other cousin totaled the car in a roll-over accident. He now has a Mitsubishi 3000GT.
He even bad-mouthes my current car.. which is 1998 Volkswagen New Beetle, every chance he gets, bad-mouthes german cars, and boasts how much better American cars are in comparison to the german cars.
I just look at it as complete ignorance. He's 17, what does he know?
I hate to tell you this, but JPaul is right. My particular VW model I drive was built in Mexico.
However I do believe that some VW models, not sure which, are built right here in the United States, and that VW is building another production plant somewhere in my region.
