Too lazy to start my own post, so will RANT here on parking...
Has anyone else noticed that others take advantage of parking next to your smart?
Regularly, people park carelessly next to me, parking diagonally across the line with their mammoth trucks and SUVs so the FAT A$$ of their vehicle is in my rear half of MY parking space. They park so carelessly and close that sometimes it's hard to get my smart out of the space!
They do it every day with our Harley. Sucks, but it is what it is.
(They wouldn't be so paranoid of other cars opening doors on their cars if they weren't driving earth distorter 3000s)
I know what all of you mean about bigger cars using up part of your diagonal space. It happens all the time, at work. The parking garage at work has issued a stupid policy on top of that. They sent out a notice that all compact cars must park in compact spaces although they haven't yet enforced it.
Why penalize us small car owners for using less space and natural resources?
I actually posted this elsewhere, but since the topic is parking, this is how a friend of mine at work, who just got his Cooper Mini, and I solved the premium parking problem:

Here is how a friend of mine that has a motorcycle and I get around the parking problem. We just happen to get off of work at the same time so it works out when it comes time to leave.
We went to Home Depot the other day, pulled into a space, hadn't even cut off the engine, when a big ole Tahoe chock full of people pulled in so close, there was no way either one of us could open our doors, without serious damage.
So we just backed out, went to a space in the hinterlands, with noooooone else anywhere nearby, and doncha know, when we came out, another SUV had parked so close, I could hardly get in the drivers side. There were the two of us, sitting in isolation, in the far end of the parking lot.
Remember those fake 70's parking tickets.....may the fleas of a thousand camels infest your armpits? maybe I need some of those!
Poor parkers/huge trucks can be an advantage - When we go to a State College Spikes minor league ball game, I've discovered if I drive all the way in to the front of the lot, there seems to always be a narrow spot or few, bounded by two big tanks, that no one else can get into - right by the gate! When I take our Corvette, however, I park "miles" away to the consternation of "she who is never wrong".
