Towing sideways

I found this on Twitpic under a search for "smart car" - an RV that's towing its Smart sideways. Surely that'll get some looks.

I've never seen a car towed sideways behind an RV. Pretty imp... on Twitpic

And he gets the added benefit of not having to pay for the 2 extra axles at a toll booth.

I think it is a very clever way to do it. It looks like the RV's escape pod.

On another forum there are guys that use older tractor trailer cabs and ramps and pull the smart car up on the back of it sideways. They then hook up the 5th wheel rv behind the smart car. This was done mainly with the 450. With the 451 they put a ramp to get the proper angle to get the smart car to fit into the 102" maximum width.

What about weight distribution? Doesn't the Smart have a heavier rear?

This isn't TOWING a smart?

Not sure what to call it, but TOWING by definition is pulling something?
This car is NOT being TOWED, it is on a platform being carried on the back of a motorhome?
Just a personal rant about misuse of terms.
