I talked to Eric yesterday. He helped my get an in house credit settled before the final day. I asked some questions and he told me he could talk more after Thursday. I said to keep us posted on the boards when able.
It's just as fastturb said. Our GM left and we are waiting to get a new one, in the mean time Mercedes Benz is picking up a lot of slack for us. This means a few things. First, Margie, the service writer, moved over to be with the Mercedes Benz service writers so that she has more support (lot boys and wash bay people), Christina moved up to the Business Development Center (promotion) to grow the business, and Seth and I are still chillin across the street and focusing on sales.
Combine these moves with the failure of our phones, yeah, I can see how this rumor started. Anyway, just stopping in to say I'm here. {unless you all worried and that will prompt you to buy another smart or your first smart, then by all means, stop by and see me (Eric) and I'll get you in a smart quickly ;-) } Feel free to email me any more questions.

What's in store for U?
SMART CAR OF DEVON OF PA CLOSING Thursday 12/31/09
Phone # already disconnected (you get that recording).
They have SOME parts to sell off.
GM already gone.
The dealership was geographically mis-located.
Should have been located in Abington, Willow Grove, Horsham, Feasterville area.
They were geographically mis-located in an area where there are high-end homes with buyers that buy high-end autos.
I see more Smarts around here then when I visit the DEVON center area.
Put a dealership on York Rd in Hatboro, Horsham, Willow Grove, Abington, Warminster, Warrington or Cheltenham and you'll be selling till the cows come home.
It tends to make me nervous when dealerships, especially of a car that you just do not see around, closing. I am wary as to what will happen to the brand when other similar cars with more extensive networks start to appear.
It seems like sales were using their personal cell phones in last month or so anyway. I have figured that somthing "interesting" was going down when we were visiting the dealership second time around and secretary was gone and limited staff was present. Most people would run back and forth across the street. Well, we bought our smart anyway and I got our new smart insured right away with Geico (our main auto insurer anyway), however smart of Devon staff were unable to get me a copy of insurance card that was faxed to them within 3min and 24seconds claiming "fax machine was locked somewhere in the office." It seemed like the ship was going down at that time. It is a shame that some peple will likely loose their jobs.
