Yea... when I finally get it ... this will seem like no big deal :-)

I filled out the loan papers with Walter on Friday... but the truck they were expecting that day did not show up.

On Saturday morning my cell phone rang with the number for the dealership...
I thought.. OH IT"S HERE!!!!.... almost jumped in the car and went over.. but instead called Walter back... NO car :-(....
Don't know why someone was trying to call me :-(

Maybe Monday will be my lucky day ...

Louis

Wow, what a bummer . I hope it is nothing serious. I would think by now you know what the issue is or have solved it

I am going to take it in the morning...
I am really hoping that it is something simple..

The symptoms are.. randomly won't start...
Last night I noticed the battery was way low (slow crank when it did start) so I put a charger on it over night.
ALso the battery indicator warning light comes on sometimes when I have the A/C running...
I checked the charge voltage to the battery with the car running and it was only 12.6v (not enough)..

So if I were to guess.. I would put money on a loose connection.. possibly ground connction to the engine... that would be an easy fix...
worst case.. could be the battery or alternator... nothing that should not be fairly easy to fix...

I'll let you know

TOok it in this morning... they said it was the battery and replaced it.
I questioned the mechanic about the possibility of a problem with the charging system and he said that the computer diagnostics did not indicate that anything was wrong..

I hope that is the end of it... but if this battery goes flat in a few days time we will know that something else is wrong.

I hope it was that simple. Like you said, a few days will tell. I was there today also to pick up my license plate. Walter installed it for me. He said they can put the plate on by itself or use the mount for the front plate since it has the matching holes spaced for the dimples in the panel. I told him to use the mounting plate which he did. Unfortunately now I can't get my fingers in to unlatch the back window manually .
Changing the subject - on the way there, another smart pulled up next to us. It was a diesel engine pulse. The lady was from Canada and had bought it there and drove it down. Kind of interesting...

Good luck with the repair.

I hear that the canada diesels get even better millage than our USA Smarts..
But I also think that it can not be registered here.

Ok.. I have had my SMART for several days now...
And I suppose, in all fairness, I should post that Smart Center New Orleans did very right by me...
Yes my smart had a small electrical problem.. but once they knew about it, the dealer bent over backwards to make it right.
They loaned me a car while their maint. tech. worked with the Smart USA engineers to rectify the problem. And when my car was ready they offered to deliver it to me so that I would not have to make another trip to the dealership.

I really have NO COMPLAINTS about the whole thing...
It is unfortunate, but there are bound to be a minor problem or two in any new product... Judging by the posts on this and other forums.. my small problem was the exception not the rule..

This thread is supposed to be about Smart Center New Orleans....
I hope that more of the S.E. Louisiana smart drivers find there way here soon...

Congratulations on the new car! Glad the dealer fixed you up and you can enjoy putting some trouble free miles on it.

Was there another electrical issue besides the bad battery?

Yes.. there was a loose or defective ground wire somewhere.
They found it, fixed it... car is fine now
