For the car, I was charged exactly what smart said it would cost. List price all the way, including the options, plus the $645 destination charge.
In NC, you pay the following as set by the State:
1) Registration & title fee - $74 - I needed a new plate. It may be $20-some less if you transfer a plate from another vehicle.
2) State Highway tax - 3% of the purchase price
Only other fee was the dealer's doc fee. In Cary it's a steep $398 - I hope in Charlotte you get a better deal on it. It was non-negotiable, I tried my best. You can call it whatever you want - ADP, document fee, it's dealer profit and a loophole Penske left. As far as I can gather, everyone is paying the same for the cars nationwide. I really admire that. But they should have known that dealers will find a way....Be sure to post your fees on the Comparing Dealer Costs thread once you find out how much.
