You want what for that Orphan West Covina???
West Covina called me today and offered me a car!!!!
Cabrio (they have 3)
"custom" leather/suede
some kind of super stereo DVD/Nav Bluetooth
Lojack
$23174
That's almost a $6000 markup!!!
They do this to all of their orphans.
I passed and now I shall continue to wait. Pwaa...

I agree at dealership premium prices. It's just a big no thanks from me. I was just expecting maybe $2000 total markups not $6000. $2000 worth of crap I dont care about is worth not waiting for my reserve. Oh well I am on the waiting list at BevHills and they don't put any options on their orphans.

Yes, but if they would leave the cars as ordered, and pass them down the list we all would get our cars earlier. If there is a 6% orphan rate and the average wait is 18 months.... if orphans were not on the open market but offered down the list, we would get our cars 6% soon...
6% of 18 months is ONE MONTH EARLIER.

They do the same thing here in fl at the dealer every car gets a mark up of 3,000 at the minimum
1st package equals = bluetooth radio very cheap $119 floor mats about $80 and a media link maybe like $100 the markup is $3,000
2nd package equals = eclipse nav unit package they charge $4,700 u can get the nav unit for like 1,000
3rd package equals = wheels painted that look absolutly horrible very badly done but that is $2,700 and they pay the guy $400 to paint them but then they add like the bluetooth radio so they can get there mark up over $3000
every car has a markup of 3,000 or more as an orphan no matter what at the dealer by me and the options do not even come close to equaling 3,000

Let's stand in line and behave, please...
Smart policy should dictate that Orphans be offered to reservation holders first--then to the general public. Some of us ordered in early '07 and followed the rules by waiting our turn in production.
As cars arrived stateside, orphans were sold to people who were not on a reservation list, to folks who had made tardy reservations, or to customers with no reservations. Early enthusiast customers--dutifully abiding by the reservation process-- were simply skipped-over.
Personally, I'm still PO'd about that. It irks me when scavengers jump in line and are allowed to bend the rules by either paying extra cash or schmoozing/harassing a local dealer. It's simply an unfair process that Smart has allowed to continue for too long.

A lot of whining about orphans. If you wanted your car sooner then go get on an orphan list. Did you know the majority of orphan owners are also reservation holders. Orphans are available to every reservation holder on a first come first serve basis. That includes reservation holders. The fact is most reservation holders have turned down orphans because of color or features. So Smart has no beef here and Dave will here that from me as well and I am a reservation holder from last year and I also have bought two orphans.
