New custom exhaust system

Hey all -

I replaced the exhaust on my little Putt-Putt last month. I took the car in to Ed Hanson in Spring Valley and had him put a custom exhaust on it.

Prior to my arrival, he had already surfed the web and had the details on panel removal, etc. I told him I was going to want a dual tip center exit. He had already found a template for the rear valance and was prepared for me!

I idropped off the car early in the morning and in about 2, 2 1/2 hours it was ready. They also returned my old exhaust in case it was "too loud" - HA!

I got out the door for under $450, installed.

The car sounds GREAT! The tone is wonderful and I love hearing the shift points better (the downshift is sweet!).

I also replaced the air filter with a Breathless filter a week prior to the exhaust.

Between the two, the shift points are higher now. On the freeway, I get to fifth at about 83 mph. There's more power and torque - timing a flat run and seat-of-the-pants measure would be about a 3 to 5% increase. And, my miles per gallon have gone up.

So, better sound + more power + more mpg = bigger smile!

So, if you want to go see Ed, make sure you mention my name. Here's his web address: www.edhansonsmuffler.com

Nice going Bill. The new exhaust and the BPP filter is a nice combo. Glad you're enjoying them.

I'll work on a better picture. Cloudy day + late in the day + cell phone camera = less than ideal picture.

Did he brace it up like the aftermarket companies do? You may have problems later on if he didn't. I have a custom muffler shop exhaust but I went with a single tip that makes the car look sort of "Rocket Powered" and I just +snapped the pipe right in half over 20k miles. This was after running it HARD (80-85mph +) for a few hundred miles. Also my original flex pipe from my original exhaust was used to help absorb vibration. We took every precaution except the additional braces we built it the first time. This time it should be fine.

I'm sure your shop you used will stand by their work. That was one thing I liked about my muffler shop exhaust - I supported local business. Some elitists will look down on you for getting a muffler shop exhaust, I know I've caught hell from a few.......Geez, for $450 you could of just bought a Breathlesss or Throley. Be prepared for that. I commend you for supporting your local business though. Quite obvious you have a local business and I bet it will help your business for going through them - that makes it worth it.

I haven't crawled under the car to check the bracing. Yet, I'm not worried. If you knew Ed, you know if it's not done right, he'd make it right. And if something went wrong, he'll take care of you.

And yes, I do like to shop local and take care of those who take care of me. I originally was going to go with a Thorley, but ended up going with Ed Hanson instead.

He made my "pipe dreams come true".
