I ran into the drivers license problem when I did the reservation this morning. I put in a leading space and presto! I also did use a different email address, just in case!

Placed second two weeks ago. Why does everyone think it will take so long to get another? I waited a year for the first one. However the dealer net work had not even been set up yet. I would think they would ramp up production line, if the demand is present. Anyone know the plant capacity? Or current production expected for 2008?

Second one I ordered will be a black/white pure. With A/C. My current one is loaded. I really don't need rain sensor. Yuma gets less than 3 inches a yr. And I have never needed the heated seats. Not sure about power steering. However VW bugs never had it and millions of those were sold.

Just my 2 cents worth.

License # Tip and the smart Oracle

The trick to the license # is to put your two letter state abbreviation in front of the number, ie CA123456789. Worked like a charm! Oh, and according to the almighty, omniscient smart usa Ouija board oracle known as the DDE, my smart2 will be delivered from Aug 09 to Oct 09. Rez #1601.

Any bets on the accuracy of this estimate? ;)

I just checked the DDE. September to November 2009. That's about 15 to 17 months after reserving. My wife reserved one last month and has a DDE of July to September 2009.

That could end up being a 2010 model!

And that could be very cool, indeed!

I just checked my DDE...... Sept. - Nov. 2009. My original plan was to sell this one and pick up the new one, however, I think I'll now keep both.

Just can't seem to part with the little buggers! (smile) Maybe use this one for work and the other one for just cruising on Friday nights..... (smile)

Went "old school" on placing my second reservation

Howdy all.

I tried again to place a reservation online and again got "kicked back".

So, I went "old school" and actually mailed a cashiers check to smartUSA.

I sent all the info that they request online, so we shall see what happens next?

Hoping I can place an order for a Micro Hybrid Drive (mhd) OR an Electric Drive (ed) to arrive sometime in 2010?

Actually I plan on getting one of each, so maybe I will be the first on their lists for these?

Decided to leave in place both my reservations

I am taking delivery of an orphan tomorrow. Leaving in place both reservations (a couple and a cabrio) in case we decide to add another one to the family. I ran into the drivers license issue too so I just added the state abrievation to it.

Update:

My wife reserved one in May, after I got mine. She had a DDE of July to September 2009. She received an email to configure it two weeks ago and we configured it last week. Current DDE is November 10, 2008 to February 8, 2009.

My DDE (not configured yet) moved up from September-November 2009 to March-May 2009 (reserved in June 2008).

Same here. I think the bloom has come off the rose and that a sick economy will keep bringing these DDE's forward. Before long used smarts will be priced well below new ones as they should.
