Well first off - Welcome to our little place in the sun CathyQ.
Gene_SD, SmartShanna and I went over and ohhhhh ... did it start out disappointing. We stood around for about an hour waiting for Udo (the GM) then they got his assistant Nicolek to come out and chat ... She new less about anything than we did. That was very disappointing but evidently their hands are tied - they aren't getting any information yet either.
On the way out we swung by the showroom and OH! looks who's there ... Udo (thank goodness) ... I have to say it was a distinct pleasure speaking to him and I really hope he sticks around with Smart for a while.
Again - they really don't have any specifics on who's getting a car and when, but we were able to get some new info.
Reservations are unofficially over 40,000 as of two weeks ago but from comes from the top-top source so it may as well be official.
The cars for the west coast are coming into Long Beach, not across the country by rail.
Dealers plan to carry panels to change colors and it should take 90 minutes to do. Another post has the price around $900 for a set.
Warranty is 2 yr/24k miles but can extend it to 3 yr/36k miles or (and I was a little foggy on this) you can buy an extension to 4 yr/48K miles.
The dealers will not carry different tire/wheel options for the first year because of warrantee issues.
BRABUS should be coming to the US in 2009.
On a side note - we're going to put together a little Smart get-together for us San Diego folks. Balboa Park and margaritas, food from wherever you feel like getting it. I think we should do it after the first person (people) get their car(s) ... CathyQ - that's me and you kiddo. I'm curious - what time did you put in your reservation on March 19th? and what did you order?
